Best-foot-forward-with-The-Blues

The Blues Rugby organisation has had an ongoing program called the “Blues best foot forward” initiative which aims to gift recycled rugby boots to players who might otherwise miss out on playing rugby.

This year with the collaboration and assistance of Pacific Rugby Players, this programme was able to send more then 20,000 pairs of sports shoes and boots over to Tonga.

“Tonga is home to many of our players and our fans,” said Blues CEO Andrew Hore. “Our players know first-hand how sport can change lives and the important role it plays in uniting people and creating opportunities and strong communities.

With many Blues players actively involved and the donations from 15 different Auckland based schools, these shoes will help make a difference to the youth in Tonga that have been impacted by the recent devastating volcanic eruption and tsunami.

Dr Edmond Fehoko who also collaborated with the programme has summed up the purpose and core of the project with the quote: “Oua lau e kafo kae lau e lava” – “Stay positive and count your blessings” – the project will continue to uplift the spirits of the young people in Tonga and to stay positive through active sports.

Pacific Rugby players are extremely proud to have been able to assist the Blues organisation with this programme and hope that it raises spirits for the youth in Tonga.
